EVENT #3 April 15th 2023
Anticipated Bracket Times
will be released April 10th.
We expect to start no earlier than 1pm!
NO SANDBAGGING!
REPEAT... NO SANDBAGGING!
This tournament and format is designed to encourage and draw more novice grapplers into a the competition space. Sandbaggers spoil these divisions and discourage participation.
If you are found out to be sandbagging you will be disqualified. *WRESTLING IS CONSIDERED GRAPPLING EXPERIENCE!
See skill levels on sign up page:
Again please be honest! Sandbagging may be identified from cauliflower ears, snitching, social media posts and clear one-sided maulings.
We do not encourage weight cuts for these scrimmages. Come as you are.
*For those who may be just on the cusp of two weight classes. A few pounds cut is acceptable. Or challenge yourself by being a smaller opponent.
Weight divisions are proposed at present and may be amended depending on participant numbers.
All competitors will have a quick weight check before competing.
These brackets are guidelines and to avoid huge weight mismatches. Don't worry too much about weight. It's about the grappling!
If you have registered at a particular weight and can't make that or are significantly out of range. Just let us know and we can move divisions.
Our Plan is to run matches constantly without many stoppages.
When the division starts, the clock will start for all matches on a 3 mins off and 1 minute off cycle.
We do not plan to stop/start the clock once division has begun.
Larger divisions will have more match areas. Smaller divisions will have fewer.
Should a match end early by submission on stoppage. That match area will remain vacant until next round.
THIS IS FAST PACED!
Our On/Off rule will slow things down for some competitors and our staff and ref's will orchestrate the rest.
Competitors will know when they are due to grapple next. Should they not be present for their match. They may be be moved to another match/slot or forfeit the match and the points.
Our on/off format is designed to allow participants to grapple more or less depending on how they feel.
Each division will be between 60 and 90 mins depending on the bracket numbers.
Initially, every participant will be 'ON' and the first matches will be randomly assigned from matching pool.
Following a match. Points will be awarded as necessary and each competitor can decide whether to return to the match pool or wait and rest.
Matching will be 'SEMI-RANDOM', as we will look to avoid the same participants matching up again or some getting more matches than others. We have a system in place and will match fairly.
3 rounds (11 mins) prior to the end of the division. The off/on rule will be disabled. During the last rounds, competitors are free to switch off but can't go back on. The remaining ON participants will compete in the final rounds.
*This is to make strategizing more challenging and encourage activity.
Our Points system is simple:
Submission win = 4 points
Draw (No Sub) = 2 points
Loss (By Sub) = 1 point
At the end of regulation time. The winner with most points will be deemed the winner.
* The 1 point for a loss is awarded to encourage participation and action. (It's a participation point, yes!)
In theory you could win the division just by getting out there a bunch and not winning a single match. Theses 2s and 1s add up!
* Note that the referee can decide a winner by stoppage or verbal tap for a participant if they feel safety is in jeopardy.
