Striking
ALL levels
(Live Exchanges)

Our entire curriculum and approach at Primal is based on maintaining the perception-action loop. That's just a fancy way of saying our practices should be realistic and authentic.

This doesn't mean that we don't feel developing technique is important. Rather we just let it develop in context. Fighting is incredibly complex and dynamic. But rather than break it down by drilling it in parts. We prefer to scale and simplify.

This means that for the most part, you won't find Pads or Bags being used in class. We prefer to use a far better piece of training equipment... A training partner!

Our live exchanges are designed to develop all areas of striking, not by drilling them individually. But by simplifying and scaling the scenarios.
Think of sparring but very constrained and limited. Training this way allows students to begin to attune to all the relevant information that their partner offers. Information that isn't there when we drill against pads or bags.

This is a perfect way for newer students to rapidly develop SKILLS safely and effectively and make best use of their practice time.

Each week will typically focus on an area of striking and mirror the foundations curriculum.

advanced
(Sparring)

At Primal we strongly believe that sparring can be both effective and relatively safe. We have worked hard to develop and maintain our strong culture of control and discipline.

Our expectations for safety and control are high and we do not tolerate recklessness or lack of control.

ALL HEAD CONTACT HAS INHERENT RISKS AND PARTICIPATING IN SPARRING MUST BE BOTH AND INFORMED CHOICE AND APPROACHED WITH RESPECT.

Our advanced sparring is an opportunity to explore, experiment and develop skills. For the most part, our sparring will be playful and creative. Infrequently we will increase intensity for specific situations or for our more established fight team members.

All sparring sessions will be supervised and overseen. But expect few stoppages and use this opportunity to test and develop your skills.

Participation in this program requires permission from the head coach. However, it is  a great program for those who are serious about develop  striking skills rapidly..
