At Primal we understand that techniques and skills are not the same and that there is no perfect or technique given the dynamic nature of the sport.
While we are very much a skills focused gym. We also understand that good movement mechanics and technical understanding are an important part of the sport.
Our technical striking classes have been designed to give the students an opportunity to practice technical movements and learn principles and concepts of striking for MMA.
This is a great program for newer students as head contact is very limited and so the striking techniques can be practiced without fear of injury or damage.
Even in these classes we look to incorporate plenty of variability and keep the drill and exchanges dynamic to keep the practice challenging and effective.
While these classes are for all levels, we encourage new students to complete the striking foundations course before participating to avoid being overwhelmed.
At Primal we strongly believe that sparring can be both effective and relatively safe. This however demands we develop and maintain a strong culture of control and discipline.
As such we have high expectations of our students in our advanced striking program.
In this practice you can expect lots live exchanges and goal orientated sparring. We do not spend a great deal of time on technical instruction. Rather we focus on concepts and principles to implement into live sparring.
While the majority of our sparring and exchanges and live and playful. We try to balance the high volume with a low risk of injury. Hard or intense sparring is infrequent and generally unnecessary for those who do not wish to compete.
As with our advanced grappling programs, out athletes are given lots of autonomy and encouraged to be creative and independent.
Participation in this program requires permission from the head coach. However, it is a great program for those who are serious about develop striking skills rapidly..
